Governor Mike DeWine has proposed increasing the tax on recreational marijuana from 10% to 20% while also removing local tax benefits for municipalities that host dispensaries. The plan, part of a broader budget initiative, would redirect cannabis tax revenue toward jail construction, law enforcement training, and education programs. Critics argue the tax hike could slow market growth and increase consumer costs. DeWine also supports reducing THC potency limits and banning outdoor smoking or vaping of cannabis.
